I dont care about politics but, you have to remember that CDPR started off with the witcher 1, an ambitious but extremely broken game with a budget of around 8M in today's money. It took them 12 years, almost 300M (including marketing) and 3 games to get to the 3rd witcher

To be honest I am surprised that seems so terrible. I thought the Russian made "Atomic Heart" wasn't terrible, even if not the best game of the sort I've ever played, and even going back to the early 2000s some of their people like the 1C company (I think they might be gone, I heard something about that, and their wikipedia page says something about them being cyber attacked by Ukrainian intelligence) were doing things like "Star Wolves" which was decent, not to mention I thought the "King's Bounty" games were Russian developed. I mean it's funny to think about a bunch of hacks screwing with auditors and stuff, but I'd think for 10 million and a 75 man team they could do better, and make better use of assets. I also do find the idea kind of amusing. To be fair I remember back in the 80s hearing about a Russian knock off of Star Trek called "Cosmo Patrol" for similar reasons. That said It turned out to all be an elaborate hoax (though they did do some very weird stuff for real, right up through the 90s). This vaguely reminds me of those stories.

It is a great setting for a game. Now we just need someone to make a game in it.

I played FOnline 2238 around 2009, rolled with The Guardians (Hello Balthasar, if you're still around), also made some sprites like the Junk Detector Mod and the Station Wagon Highwayman. I also was obsessed with trucks and asked the developers to add one in the game until they complied and made the truck (the sprite for this was made by Olympus devs) obtainable due a rare special encounter, so i wandered the Wastes until the shutdown of 2238 and during the shutdown festivities, i explicitely asked gamemaster JovankaB to bring me to my object of obsession. In the final hours of the game, i could finally enjoy the ride, facing the impending Apocalypse, driving my truck and could almost feel the wind...

I prefer the sequel, Yuri's Revenge

I cant believe ive been playing mechwarrior for almost 30 years. Godamnit im old and love giant robots. I started with the first game and been playing since. Halariously never got into battletech. But now as a total fanboy im ordering my first battalion. :D

Man I loved this game when I was a teen, the one i liked most was Ice Crusade, it started my love of Object 279 :) I never really found it boring, i just thought it was really hard and to be honest I love a crazy concept delivered with a straight face, my biggest issue with Red Alert 3 was that they made it too much of a joke while Red Alert 2 was basically a perfect balance.
